Our Christening parties enable family and friends to gather together and celebrate one your family’s most important celebrations.

After your traditional Church Christening return to your chosen English Rose venue to enjoy anything from a drink on the terrace or small buffet to a 3 course lunch or full scale banquet.

We appreciate the number of young members of the family who will be sharing in this important day so with this in mind we’ll be sure to cater for both children and adults when discussing your venue and menu options.

Several English Rose Hotels also hold a full civil license making providing the perfect venue for a Naming Ceremony. See below for further details.

Naming Ceremonies

Naming ceremonies are non-religious ceremonies and offer a perfect alternative to those not wishing to have a traditional church christening. Several of our hotels hold a civil license enabling us to hold such an event giving you the opportunity to create a special ceremony to welcome your new child.

The programme and content of the day’s events is entirely up to you. Generally ceremonies usually last about 20 minutes. The ceremony, which can be conducted by you or a celebrant, usually includes an introduction and welcome followed by a reading of poetry, hopes for the future or even music.

The official announcement of the child’s chosen name and the parents’ and supporting adults’ pledge of love and support generally follow this introduction with the assistance and presence of the registrars from the local area.

Supporting Adults or Mentors (who may be friends or family) take the place of the traditional Christian Godparents and declare a pledge to be there for the child throughout their life, whenever their help is needed.

Naming ceremonies are not legally binding and have no legal status, although you will be presented with a souvenir certificate as a memory of the event.
