Drawing on the Dramatic: Exhibition of Costume Design

19th Jan 2009

Guests staying at our self catering accommodation in Scarborough will this month have the opportunity to view a new art display at the Scarborough Art Gallery.

Drawing on the Dramatic, an unusual exhibition featuring work by design students from the Yorkshire Coast College, is described as “visually sumptuous and fascinating.”

All of the artwork presented by the students is displayed at Scarborough Art Gallery and is alongside original period costumes from the Scarborough Museums Trust’s collection and work lent by the Stephen Joseph Theatre.

Also as part of the exhibition there will be production photographs on display from the theatre by Adrian Gatie, Tony Bartholomew and Lord Snowdon, and costume drawings from professional designers.

Ian Read, who is the learning manager of the Scarborough Museums Trust said: “The quality of the students’ work has been a revelation.”

“It is a rare combination of costume design, fine art, graphic art and photography drawn from Yorkshire Coast College, the Stephen Joseph Theatre archives and the Scarborough Museums Trust’s collection.”

Throughout the Drawing on the Dramatic exhibition at Scarborough Art Gallery, there will be workshops and events exploring costume design. For further information on these workshops visit Scarborough Art Gallery.

The Drawing on the Dramatic Exhibition at the Gallery runs from Saturday 17th January – Sunday 22nd February 2009 so guests staying at our self catering flats in Scarborough have over a month to view this exciting exhibition.
