Find out more about Scalby Village
Wrea Head Hotel is situated in Scalby, a lovely traditional English village located on the boundary of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, just minutes north of the coastal town of Scarborough.
The village has a fascinating history and a wide variety of interesting architecture including the ancient church of St. Laurence, which is believed to date back to 1150.
Over the years, Scalby has retained much of its old world charm, retaining many features of the traditional English village. There are two friendly pubs serving local beers – The Nags Head Inn and The Plough Inn both both of which can be found on the High Street – a cosy restaurant, a few small shops, a selection of B&B’s and self catering cottages and of course – Wrea Head Country House – arguably one of the finest of all Scarborough hotels
There’s always plenty going on in the village too. There’s a quiet park with tennis courts and lawn bowls, a large playing field ,which can be seen from Wrea Head Hotel’s gardens, where local teams can often be seen enjoying a game of cricket and every Summer the fabulous Scalby Fair & Flower Festival takes place – a community event that evolved from a street party held to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.
Follow Scalby Beck, which runs through the village to the coast, and you’ll discover Scalby Mills. Here guests staying at our Scarborough hotel can enjoy beautiful cliff-top walks along the beautiful, unspoilt Yorkshire coastline – of for the less energetic, enjoy a pint of real ale at the Old Scalby Mills Pub, offering spectacular views across to Scarborough Castle and The North Sea. The beaches at Scalby Mills are famous for their fossils and the recent discovery of dinosaur footprints dating from the Jurassic era, clearly visible in rocks on the sands have earned the area the title of ‘Dinosaur Coast!’
In all, Scalby makes for an ideal destination for your next UK Short Break, and what better way to enjoy the delights which the local area has to offer, than with a stay at Wrea Head Country House Hotel.
